March 13, 2o2o: A Message from the Elders and Governing Board
News surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak is fast becoming the center of most conversations. Like you, we’ve been following the news of the Coronavirus with concern for those around the world. On Friday, March 13, 2020, Gov. Polis issued a state-wide order for the cancellation of all public gatherings in Colorado with more than 250 people unless those events can guarantee six feet of separation between attendees. We will not likely have 250 attendees, but we cannot guarantee six feet of separation.
We are confident that God wants us to be diligent in our precautions, but not lose sight of the larger reality of what it means to follow Christ and be on mission with him.
We recommend special caution be taken by all but especially those in the high-risk category. They are:
- Older adults, 61+ years old
- People with chronic medical conditions, such as
- High blood pressure
- Lung, heart or kidney disease
While we aren’t driven by worry, we want to be wise as well. Please be mindful of guidance from local and national health agencies. We do so knowing that as Christ-followers we’re called to lives of faith, placing our confidence fully in the Lord as the ultimate source of our security.
We are increasing our cleaning and sanitizing schedule for frequently touched surfaces in areas for both children and adults to two times a week: Saturdays before and Mondays after the heaviest usage of the building on Sunday. We are also enacting other precautions for additional safeguards.
Our God is loving, sovereign, and still on the throne. None of this is a surprise to Him, and nothing, ever, is out of His control. Our desire to live lives that reflect Christ leads us to care deeply for you, our church family, and for the people of our community. While fear and panic seem to be dominating the news, we as believers know that fear is one of the enemy’s most popular weapons to use against us. During times like these, we are reminded of 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” We hope this will be an encouragement to you in the coming weeks.
